Understanding what you may be experiencing
Training can be strong while confidence, focus or competition pressure gets in the way. Athletes may also struggle emotionally during injury, selection setbacks, loss of form, retirement or a change in sporting identity.
John holds a Diploma in Sports Psychology and has worked with sports teams. His psychotherapy training allows sessions to consider both performance and the person behind it, without treating wellbeing as separate from sport.
You might consider support if you notice
These experiences are examples, not a diagnosis. You can contact John even if your situation does not fit a neat label.
- Competition nerves and performance anxiety
- Confidence and self-belief
- Focus, concentration and preparation
- Responding to mistakes or setbacks
- Injury recovery and return-to-play concerns
- Pressure, motivation and sporting identity
How therapy can approach this
Sessions can explore the thinking and emotional patterns that appear before, during and after performance. The aim is to develop awareness and practical responses that feel authentic, while also making room for stress, disappointment or identity concerns that may sit beneath the performance issue. Support is individual rather than a one-size-fits-all formula.
Appointments in Meath and online
Athletes can attend in person in Kilmainhamwood or online from anywhere in Meath. Online appointments can fit around training, travel and competition schedules. Individual sessions cost €60.
